Manea Senior College in Bunbury, Australia
Manea Senior College, designed by Cox Howlett + Bailey Woodland that located in Bunbury, Western Australia, redefines the classroom as being many things – indoors and out, in the central street, around the coffee table, on the grass or on the bush-walk.
Manea is a working symbol of connection. The College is a clear portal between the Edith Cowan University and TAFE precincts. A central street forms the social spine of the College. It is the daily space through which students commute and communicate. This forges the notion of the compact campus where the ingredients are tightly grouped around circulatory and social spaces. It fosters exchange and interaction and promotes a sense of community and neighbourhood.
The campus is sensitively immersed in its landscape. Journeys within the campus permit continuous orientation through visual contact with the surrounding bushland and natural light. It nestles gently on the side of the hill, cascading down in symphony with the natural contours.
The compact campus has significantly minimised the impact on the natural bushland and created a very delicate environmental footprint.
Manea College is a playful, stimulating environment which encourages freedom of expression and thought.
