Christopher Polly Architect designed the Elliott Ripper House, an inviting residence happily combining modern features with warm, rustic touches. Located in Rozelle, Sydney, Australia, this 161 square meter home displays a charming weatherboard cladding profile, large glass doors and pivoting windows allowing various degrees of openness: "The project simply and directly extrapolates existing formal qualities in plan and section, with extension of key existing materials and finishes to retain some memory of its previous incarnation – while providing a significantly expanded series of connected interior volumes that harness access to sunlight, ventilation and views of tree canopies, sky and district beyond". The ground floor accommodates an open plan kitchen, dining and living volume, while the upper level hosts the private areas. The two previously unrelated floors are currently connected by a wooden staircase, enhancing the overall feeling of warmth inspired by this unusual contemporary home. |
