The 2016 Sustainability Conference will be held at Portland State University, Smith Memorial Student Union in Portland, OR, USA, from 21-23 January 2016.
Proposals for paper presentations, workshops, poster presentations, or colloquia are invited that discuss the broader themes listed below. In addition to the special focus, paper presentations will be grouped into one of the following categories for presentation at the conference:
Theme 1: Environmental Sustainability
Theme 2: Sustainability in Economic, Social and Cultural Context
Theme 3: Sustainability Policy and Practice
Theme 4: Sustainability Education
Special Focus: Urban Sustainability: Inspiration and Solution
With more than 50 percent of the global population living in urban or urbanizing areas, developing and recognizing urban models of sustainability have become imperative. In the search for solutions many urban centers struggle with the full inclusion of their indigenous, immigrant and marginalized populations in policy solutions and implementation. As we envision sustainable development in cities and strive for livable futures, being intentional about inclusion is critical. A future with sustainable cities requires initiatives that grow from the nexus of social, economic, cultural, and environmental research and policy development and implementation.
INSTITUTE FOR SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS AND THE SUSTAINABILITY CONFERENCE
The 2016 Sustainability Conference is pleased to be partnering with the Institute for Sustainable Solutions at Portland State University. The Institute for Sustainable Solutions (ISS) is a hub for sustainability at Portland State, supporting interdisciplinary research, curriculum development, student leadership, and meaningful community partnerships that contribute to a just, prosperous, and vibrant future for our region and the world.
Presenters also have the option to submit completed papers to one of fully peer-reviewed journals in On Sustainability Journal Collection. If you are unable to attend the conference, you may still join the community and submit your article for peer review and possible publication, upload an online presentation, and enjoy subscriber access to the journal.
